GroundWork Gallery on Tour for Dorset Art Week

The Ground Beneath Our Feet visits Dorset Art Week, 31 May- 2 June & 7 – 9 June, 11-4.

The new GroundWork NetWork is visiting Dorset Art week. As one of our events, we are showing selected works by some of our foundational members: the 12 artists who were in residence in summer 2023. Together we are considering how we respond to the ways in which we exploit and nurture the earth’s resources.

GroundWork NetWork

As one of the events to launch our new GroundWork NetWork, 12 of our artists are visiting Amanda Wallwork’s studio for Dorset Art Week (DAW) this year. During summer 2023, Amanda was in residence as the anchor artist for The Ground Beneath Our Feet. As a follow-up, Amanda is hosting an exhibition in her huge studio space to bring together works made by her fellow residency artists. We are grateful to the Arts Council for support during this phase of development of our project.

Linking ultimately to the theme of Extraction, Art on the Edge of the Abyss, launched in 2021 in Montana, United States, this entire project has been stimulating a growing community of artists, ecologists and geologists both in the UK and the US. Together we are considering how we respond to the ways in which we exploit and nurture the earth’s resources. There will be works on show by Henny Burnett, Caroline Chouler Tissier, Heidi McEvoy-Swift, Sophy King, Lucy Jane MacAllister Dukes, Kelly Hill, Kathryn Parsons, Sophie Marritt, Sam Hodge, Jane Scobie and Valerie Price.

GroundWork Network

This is a new initiative to bring together all the people connected with GroundWork Gallery and its campaigns for art and environment. Fundamental to its foundation has been the strong bonds formed by this group of artists exhibiting here in Dorset. But there are many people who are important to us, from all the artists we have ever exhibited, to all the organisations and individuals who have been of key influence and importance to our development.
