Lee Grandjean, Drift 2016, painted wood, h. 15, l. 32, d. 13

This cheerful work is one of a series of small table-top sculptures made for 'Out of the Wood' at GroundWork from 5 November -17 December 2016. It is made from pieces of apple tree roots found in the artist's Norfolk garden. Its form and subject was suggested by the natural shape of the wood. As with many of Lee's works, this is suggestively half-figurative, half-abstract, apparently throwing open its arms in an exuberant gesture, but equally it is a little essay in balance. Its bright colour is reminiscent of cartoon images.
